Bill Pay

What is Bill Pay?

Bill Pay is a feature that lets you pay UK businesses by bank transfer using your Capital on Tap credit limit. If you're trying to pay a business that does not accept Capital on Tap cards via invoice, this is the only available alternative.

It's designed for business expenses that can't be paid by card, such as rent, large supplier invoices, or vendor payments.

How to apply

Bill Pay is currently in beta and is not available to all customers. To request access, contact Capital on Tap Support in the App or Online Portal to join the waitlist.

Once access is granted:

  • The Main Account Holder must log in to the Online Portal or App and accept the Terms and Conditions.
  • The Bill Pay tab will appear in their account.
  • Main Account Holders and Admins can schedule payments.

Important: Bill Pay will only be visible once access has been granted.

What does Bill Pay cost?

When scheduling a payment, you choose a fee option based on your plan and whether you want to earn rewards.

  • Appear as transactions on your account
  • Accrue interest in the same way as card purchases

Use the Bill Pay Calculator to estimate the total costs and rewards before scheduling a payment.

Is the Bill Pay fee subject to VAT?

The Bill Pay fee is treated as a transaction against your credit limit and will appear on your monthly statement. A separate invoice is not issued for the fee, consequently, it is not VAT taxable.

How do I schedule a bill payment?

  1. Log in to the Online Portal.
  2. Go to the Bill Pay tab.
  3. Upload an invoice or enter your bill details manually.
  4. Confirm the payee's details.
  5. Select your preferred payment date and fee option.
  6. Confirm the payment.

Capital on Tap will send a faster payment to your supplier on the scheduled date.

When will the bill payment be sent?

The scheduled payment date depends on when you submit the bill.

  • If a bill is scheduled before 4:30 pm, the earliest available payment date is the next business day.
  • If a bill is scheduled after 4:30 pm, the earliest available payment date is two business days later.

All payments are processed by 5:00 pm on the scheduled date and the payment status is available to be consulted in the Web Portal under the Bill Pay tab.

Do I need to upload an invoice?

An invoice is not always required. However, Capital on Tap may request one if:

  • The bill is over £5,000
  • Additional verification is needed
  • The payment is for salaries (a payslip may be requested)

Receipts are not accepted as Bill Pay can only process invoices.

Can I make international bill payments?

No. Bill Pay currently supports GBP payments to UK businesses only.

What payment reference will my supplier see?

Payments are sent from Capital on Tap Invoicing Services and will include the payment reference you provided when scheduling the bill.

How can I find the payment reference?

Payment references and all details from a bill payment can be consulted in the Online Portal, under the Bill Pay tab.

Can I cancel a scheduled bill payment?

Yes, you can cancel a scheduled bill payment at any time before it is processed.

  1. Log in to the Online Portal.
  2. Navigate to the Bill Pay tab.
  3. Select the scheduled payment and cancel it.

Once a payment has been processed, it cannot be cancelled.

What should I do if a supplier hasn't received a payment?

Check the live payment status in the Bill Pay tab of the Online Portal.

  • If the portal shows the payment is still processing, allow the expected timeframe to pass.
  • If the portal shows the payment has been sent but the supplier has not received it, contact Capital on Tap support in the App or Online Portal.
  • If the payment has not changed to processing on the date it is due to be paid, it may be under review. Our internal team should have reached out via email to confirm some information.
