How to view or reset a card PIN

Physical card PINs can be viewed or reset at any time through the Capital on Tap app or web portal.

For new physical cards, they need to be activated at an ATM by completing a balance enquiry before chip and PIN payments will work, otherwise payments will be declined until this step is completed, even when the correct PIN is entered.

We do not send a PIN in the post - this can only be viewed online on the app or portal.

Please note that virtual cards do not have a PIN and are only supported for online transactions.

How to view a PIN

  1. Go to the Cards section.
  2. Select the relevant card under My Cards.
  3. Select View PIN.

If the View PIN option is not available or if identity verification is blocking access, it might be because the card is not activated or the device binding is incomplete.

How to reset a PIN

PINs can be reset through the app or web portal at any time, whether forgotten or blocked after too many incorrect attempts.

  1. Go to the Cards section.
  2. Select the relevant card under My Cards.
  3. Select View PIN, then Change PIN.
  4. Choose a new PIN, confirm it and select Set PIN.
  5. Visit an ATM and complete a balance enquiry within 24 hours.

The PIN reset will not take effect for chip and PIN payments until the ATM balance enquiry is completed.

My card is blocked after entering the wrong PIN. What should I do?

Entering an incorrect PIN three or more times will block the card as a security measure. To unblock it:

  1. Go to the Cards section.
  2. Select the blocked card under My Cards.
  3. Click Unfreeze.

If a PIN reset is also needed, follow the steps in the reset section. Remember that the ATM balance enquiry must still be completed within 24 hours for the new PIN to take effect.

Why isn't the ATM balance enquiry working?

If the ATM balance enquiry fails or if the card is still being declined, this is likely a sign the card's chip may be damaged or faulty. A replacement card can be ordered directly from the app or web portal. A virtual card can be created in the meantime.

Can I have my PIN sent via post?

The only way to receive your PIN is via the Cards section in the app. We do not send PINs via post.
