Managing virtual cards
Virtual cards provide almost instant access to funds for online purchases without waiting for a physical card. They can be created instantly through your online portal or app.
What is a virtual card?
A virtual card is a digital-only card used for online purchases or digital wallet payments. Virtual cards are particularly useful if a physical card is delayed, lost, or being replaced. They earn the same rewards as physical cards.
Key features:
- Do not require activation
- Can only be used for online transactions
- Do not have a PIN
- Available immediately after creation, even if your physical card has not arrived
How do I create a virtual card?
You can request a virtual card at any time from your online portal or app:
- Navigate to the Cards page.
- Select Add new card.
- Select the specific cardholder.
- Choose Virtual as the card type.
- Set any desired spend limits.
- Confirm.
To use it for online purchases, you can view the card details on the Cards page.
What are the limits for virtual cards?
- Daily limit: The Main Account Holder can create up to 5 virtual cards per day.
- Active card limit: Up to 50 active virtual cards at one time per user.
- Account limit: An account is limited to 99 virtual cards in total.
If you reach the daily creation limit, you will need to wait until the next day to create additional cards.
If you need to create a new card but have reached the 50-card limit, terminate an unused virtual card first. It is not possible to increase this limit.
Why can't I create a virtual card?
There are several reasons why you may be unable to create a virtual card:
- Daily limits reached: You can only create up to 5 virtual cards per day for a specific cardholder.
- Total limits reached: You may have reached the 50 active cards per user or 99 cards per account limit.
- Account status: Virtual cards cannot be issued if the account is declined, suspended, paused, or if the wallet is deactivated.
- Security verification: If using a new device or browser, you must complete Device Binding (Identity Verification) before creating a card.
- Security measures: If a device has been reported lost or stolen, new virtual card creation is prevented to secure the account.
What should I do if my virtual card details are compromised?
Terminate the compromised card immediately on the Cards page of your portal and issue a new virtual card from the same page. This action does not impact your physical card.
Adding your card to a digital wallet
You can add your virtual card to Apple Pay or Google Pay for contactless payments. See our Digital Wallets Setup article for instructions.
Am I able to view transactions on a specific virtual card?
You are able to monitor a specific virtual card's transactions by exporting the data as follows:
- Log into the online portal and navigate to export transactions.
- Select to download a Standard CSV file for the desired date range.
- Open the downloaded CSV file, which will include specific columns for both the Cardholder name and the Card name (if available).
- Use the filter tool in Excel (or another spreadsheet software) to filter the data by the specific virtual card you wish to monitor.
It is not possible to filter the transactions page by card but you are able to filter by cardholder.
