Providing proof of address

To comply with standard regulatory requirements and enhance the security of your account against fraud, Capital on Tap is sometimes required to verify your home address as part of our identity and security checks.

This article outlines which documents we can accept, what to check before submitting, and how to send your document to us.

Which documents can I use as proof of address?

Capital on Tap can accept one of the following:

  • Personal Bank Statement - Must be a regular monthly statement issued by your bank. On-request letters, summaries or credit card statements are not accepted.
  • Utility Bill - Including gas, electricity, water, or waste collection.
  • Council Tax Bill

What are the requirements for a proof of address document?

Every document submitted must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Original document - A PDF downloaded from the issuer's website, or a clear copy of a document sent to your home address, is accepted.
  • Issued within the last 90 days
  • Full name shown - The name on the document must match the Main Account Holder.
  • Current address shown - The document must reflect your current home address. Documents showing a previous address are not accepted.
  • Complete and unredacted - All pages must be included and nothing can be blanked out. Check for page numbers to confirm you have the full document.

Capital on Tap cannot accept photos of unopened envelopes, redacted statements or partial documents.

How to submit a proof of address

When proof of address is required, Capital on Tap will contact you by email with secure upload instructions and you will need to submit your document as a PDF file.

What should I do if I'm having trouble uploading my document?

If you receive an error when uploading, try the following:

  1. Use a different browser.
  2. Open a new Incognito window.
  3. Clear cookies and cache.
  4. Try switching devices.
  5. Confirm your document is a PDF and not password protected.

If the issue continues, you can email your PDF directly to contact@capitalontap.com. Please include your Locator ID in the subject line.

Why might my proof of address be rejected?

A document will typically be rejected if it:

  • Was issued more than 90 days ago
  • Is a type that is not accepted
  • Shows a previous address rather than the current one
  • Is incomplete or contains any redacted or blacked out information

If your document is rejected, our team will contact you to explain what is needed.
